Week of March 25 Parent Newsletter

This Week:

  • PSAT/SAT Test Day for JUNIORS ONLY | March 27, 2024

    • Due to a tech issue with College Board's software, only the JUNIOR students will take the SAT test on Wednesday, March 27th.  All other students will have an asynchronous eLearning day.

    • Juniors On Test Day

      The test will begin promptly at 9:30 AM and will conclude at 12 PM. If your student receives accommodations, they will conclude the test at 1:30 PM. Students are not allowed to bring bags, food, cell phones, or smart watches into the test room. These items must either be left at home or in the students' assigned locker. No talking is allowed during the test. If talking does occur, the student in question will forfeit the remainder of the test and will be sent home. Students must bring their own chromebooks, fully charged as they will be taking the SAT test on their device. No loaners or extra chargers will be provided.  

    • Underclassmen and Seniors On Test Day

      With regard to the Freshmen, Sophomore, and Senior classes, Wednesday, March 27 will serve as an asynchronous eLearning day. Teachers will provide students with instructions and assignments that must be completed for that day. 

    • Test Make-Up Day (4/12/24)

      Freshmen and Sophomores will take the PSAT test on Friday, April 12 and will follow the same schedule. Juniors and Seniors will have this day off.

Seniors & parents:

  • Graduation caps, gowns, and more! The fee is $75.00 for the Graduation Package which consists of the graduation gown, cap, tassel, and stole. Please pay by March 29, 2024.

Lunch:

  • Lunch orders are back and running on our BOONLI website! Make sure to place your orders by Thursday at midnight for next week's choices! Meals will only be cold items until our kitchen is ready to go. Thanks for your flexibility.

Student artwork on display:

  • Ten of our very own UCA students have their artwork on display at the South Holland Public Library! Visit the SHPL at 16250 Wausau Ave, South Holland, IL 60473 in the month of March to view this student work. The artwork is located in the Teen Gallery (lower level).

Exciting opportunities:

  • PAC | One of Unity's most important assets are its parents! If you would like to make an impact and help out with various activities for UCA, we could use you to join PAC, our Parent Activities Committee! Please reach out to aveldboom@weareuca.org if interested. There are a variety of ways you can help out from giving your time, buying/making things, giving financially, etc. We will have a meeting the week after Spring Break; be on the lookout for the date!

  • Three FREE Weeklong STEM Programs

    • The Exelon Foundation STEM Academy (for young women) will take place at the University of Illinois, Chicago, July 7-12, 2024.

    • The Exelon Foundation Boys to STEM Academy (for young men) will take place at the University of Maryland, College Park, July 28 – August 2, 2024. Young men participating in the program from Chicago will fly with a NEED staff member to Maryland.

    • The Constellation Youth Energy Summit at University of Maryland, Baltimore County for both girls and boys, July 14 – 19, 2024. Participants in the Youth Energy Summit will fly to Maryland and shuttled from BWI to the university. Applicants should be comfortable flying unaccompanied.

      Participates will live on campus for the week, visit energy related sites, network with people working in STEM, engineering, and energy, work together on a weeklong challenge and build their own network of likeminded young people.
