Week of March 18 Parent Newsletter

This Week:

  • This is a normal week of learning.

  • United | Friday, March 22, 2024, 7:00-9:00 PM

    • Students, come join us for the launch of United! United is a once-a-month, Friday night spiritual revival that includes food, fellowship, praise & worship, and a message. The purpose of United is to allow for a time and space where students can intentionally come together to revitalize their faith and journey with God.

    • Please note that students may not stay after school until the start of United. The building will be closed from 4:15-6:45 PM.

looking ahead:

  • PSAT/SAT Test Day | March 27, 2024

    • Wednesday, March 27 will be our All School Test Day!  The exam will begin promptly at 9:30 AM and will conclude at 12:00 PM.

      The Freshmen and Sophomores will take the Preliminary SAT, also known as the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test). This is the practice version of the SAT exam. 

      The Juniors will take the Virtual SAT exam. This exam is what is needed for certain college applications that students will apply to as Seniors. 

      Seniors will have the school day off.

      Both tests include four timed sections: Evidence-Based Reading, Writing and Language, and two Math sections (one section where a calculator can be used and one section where it cannot be used).

    • Students will need to bring the following:

      • 2 or more sharpened #2 pencils (no mechanical pencils)

      • A pencil sharpener

      • Calculator

        *Please note that UCA will not provide these items.

  • A-Term | April 15-19, 2024

    • A-Term is one month away! Please click here to read the information about this year’s A-Term course offerings, schedule, and expectations.

Seniors & parents:

  • Graduation caps, gowns, and more! The fee is $75.00 for the Graduation Package which consists of the graduation gown, cap, tassel, and stole. Please pay by March 29, 2024.

  • Senior Class Trip: If your son/daughter is going on the class trip, don't forget the final payment is due on May 15. Feel free to pay in installments!

Lunch:

  • Lunch orders are back and running on our BOONLI website! Make sure to place your orders by Thursday at midnight for next week's choices! Meals will only be cold items until our kitchen is ready to go. Thanks for your flexibility.

Student artwork on display:

  • Ten of our very own UCA students have their artwork on display at the South Holland Public Library! Visit the SHPL at 16250 Wausau Ave, South Holland, IL 60473 in the month of March to view this student work. The artwork is located in the Teen Gallery (lower level).

Exciting opportunities:

  • PAC | One of Unity's most important assets are its parents! If you would like to make an impact and help out with various activities for UCA, we could use you to join PAC, our Parent Activities Committee! Please reach out to aveldboom@weareuca.org if interested. There are a variety of ways you can help out from giving your time, buying/making things, giving financially, etc. We will have a meeting the week after Spring Break; be on the lookout for the date!

  • Three FREE Weeklong STEM Programs

    • The Exelon Foundation STEM Academy (for young women) will take place at the University of Illinois, Chicago, July 7-12, 2024.

    • The Exelon Foundation Boys to STEM Academy (for young men) will take place at the University of Maryland, College Park, July 28 – August 2, 2024. Young men participating in the program from Chicago will fly with a NEED staff member to Maryland.

    • The Constellation Youth Energy Summit at University of Maryland, Baltimore County for both girls and boys, July 14 – 19, 2024. Participants in the Youth Energy Summit will fly to Maryland and shuttled from BWI to the university. Applicants should be comfortable flying unaccompanied.

      Participates will live on campus for the week, visit energy related sites, network with people working in STEM, engineering, and energy, work together on a weeklong challenge and build their own network of likeminded young people.
