The door has been opened for Unity Christian Academy to become a conference champion or boast an all-conference athlete.
The new opportunities come as UCA joins the Metro Prep Conference, an athletic conference that comprises seven private religious schools in the Chicagoland area.
“Being a part of a conference means you have a set number of schools and games that you’ll play every year. It also means you can win a conference championship,” said Mr. Purnell, UCA’s new athletic director.
UCA’s sports offerings currently include: girls volleyball, boys soccer, boys basketball, girls basketball, track, cross country, esports, and new for next spring: baseball. Co-curriculars are mock trial and robotics.
Schools included in the Metro Prep Conference are UCA, AQSA in Bridgeview, Hinsdale Adventist Academy, Muslim Community Center Academy in Morton Grove, Universal School in Bridgeview, College Preparatory School of America in Lombard, and the Islamic Foundation School in Villa Park.
“Being part of this conference helps with scheduling, it helps with notoriety and recognition for our programs, and it helps with recognition for our student athletes,” Purnell said.
More information about UCA athletics and co-curriculars (including sports schedules) can be found on the UCA Athletics page.
